♻️ New Milestone in Recycling Innovation

mjs_ab_nova-2048x1365

PLASTICS CEO Matt Seaholm and Andy Brewer, Director of Sustainability & Recycling, joined NOVA Chemicals this week to celebrate the launch of SYNDIGO1—one of the world’s largest polyethylene film mechanical recycling facilities.

🧃 Why it matters:
SYNDIGO1 offers real, scalable solutions for plastic film recycling—repurposing 145,000 bales annually into 110M pounds of recycled polyethylene.

🏭 The impact:

  • 125 U.S. jobs created

  • FDA + GreenBlue certified

  • Fully operational by late 2025

  • Supplying high-quality recycled resin to key packaging sectors

🏠 Strong Housing Market Signals Growth for Plastics

Why it matters:
Housing is a bellwether for the plastics industry. From pipes and insulation to siding and windows, residential construction drives demand across the entire plastics value chain. Even amid market fluctuations, underlying housing demand remains solid.

By the numbers:

  • $6.7B in plastics used in single-family home construction in 2023

  • Remodeling market: $127B annually and rising

  • Plastics output tracks 81% with construction supplies production

Between the lines:
While new home sales and housing starts remain choppy, remodeling is picking up—and that’s good news for plastics. With tariffs looming and mortgage rates still high, domestic plastics producers have a strategic opportunity to fill supply gaps and meet demand across both new builds and home upgrades.
