Plastics News has published a column by PLASTICS President and CEO, Matt Seaholm, addressing his recent experience testifying before a the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works subcommittee and witness commentary on the ulterior motives of panel-members in supporting Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and other collaborative efforts to curb plastic waste.
"Typically EPR can be an all-encompassing term for anti-plastics policies," Matt wrote. "Ms. Enck’s response to this issue was very telling. When referring to EPR policies, she clarified her position, saying 'I call them plastic reduction and reuse requirements,' which suggests a very different purpose. So, while the plastics industry is saying, “OK, let’s figure out a funding mechanism like EPR to build the necessary recycling infrastructure,” activists like Enck are essentially saying, “You can call it whatever you want, we have a different agenda.”
On January 12, PLASTICS' COO Glenn Anderson discussed "making the most of association resources in an inflationary climate" during a panel discussion at the Amplify Your Advantage Conference in Baltimore, hosted by National Association of Manufacturers' Council of Manufacturing Associations (CMA).
