Fly-in 2026 4

The Plastics Industry Fly-In on Capitol Hill was a resounding success last week. Industry leaders from across the country gathered in Washington, D.C., to engage directly with policymakers and highlight the essential role our industry plays nationwide.

This year’s Fly-In brought together industry leaders representing 27 states, who held 115 meetings with lawmakers in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

During a high-impact morning of advocacy, our delegation focused on:

  • Building relationships: Establishing direct lines of communication with key legislators
  • Advancing priorities: Ensuring our industry’s voice is represented in policy discussions
  • Highlighting impact: Demonstrating plastics’ essential role in the national economy and everyday life

Momentum from these meetings continues to build. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make our collective voice heard on the Hill.

♻️ Recycling is Real: Inside Dow & Circulus

Recycling is Real is proud to spotlight Dow and its Circulus Holdings, PBLLC mechanical recycling facilities in Arab, Alabama and Ardmore, Oklahoma—two facilities turning post-consumer plastic waste into high-quality recycled materials that go right back into Dow's manufacturing supply chain.

As one of the world's leading materials science companies, Dow is demonstrating what a truly circular economy looks like in practice—not as a concept, but as an operating reality across America.

This is what happens when innovation, infrastructure, and commitment come together. Watch the full video to see it in action.

♻️ Polystyrene Recycling Gets a Real-World Test

Why it matters: Recycling only works when the full system is aligned. A new initiative is putting that idea into action for high-impact polystyrene (HIPS).

What’s happening: The Polystyrene Recycling Alliance (PSRA) has partnered with the Mexican Plastics Pact (PPMX) to advance recycling of high‑impact polystyrene (HIPS) dairy packaging across central Mexico. Working alongside leading brands  and recycling partners, the initiative is building a coordinated, market-driven circular value chain.

Over a 14‑month timeline, the collaboration will test scalable collection models, improve recyclability design guidance, and generate data-driven insights to help strengthen polystyrene recycling systems in Mexico and beyond

Where it shows up: Collection efforts will span Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Querétaro, and Puebla, with materials processed at Resirene’s FDA-compliant recycling facility.

Big picture:
HIPS is widely used but often under-recovered. This effort focuses on fixing the system—collection, processing, and demand—so the material can stay in use.
