PLASTICS Presents Senator Tom Carper with Recycling is Real 2024

Congressional Recycling Champion Award

PLASTICS and the Congressional Recycling Caucus—along with a coalition of fifteen Industry Associations—gathered on Capitol Hill during Recycling Week to present the 2024 Recycling Champion award to retiring Senator Tom Carper (D-DE).  The event, attended by stakeholders, House and Senate staff and Industry Association representatives, recognized Senator Carper’s dedication to sustainability and leadership in advancing recycling policies. Senator Caper's work has left a lasting impact on the recycling industry by driving innovation and creating opportunities for progress and growth across the country.

PLASTICS President & CEO Matt Seaholm presented Sen. Tom Carper, retiring Co-Chair of the Recycling Caucus, with the Recycling is Real 2024 Congressional Recycling Champion Award, adding, "PLASTICS remains committed to working with policymakers, the new administration, and local governments to expand recycling efforts and recover valuable materials for reuse every day." Senate Recycling Caucus Co-chairmen Sen. John Boozman (R-AR), and Senator Carper both delivered remarks highlighting the work of the Caucus and recognizing the efforts of industry groups like PLASTICS in their successes.

As Senator Carper accepted the award, he reflected on his passion for recycling, noting, “I believe we have a responsibility to leave our planet in better shape than we found it. By promoting recycling in America, we can serve as faithful stewards of our planet and fight climate change, while also investing in American manufacturing and jobs.”

As an industry, we are working alongside our partners to make plastics more recyclable and to educate people on the importance of daily recycling… The recycling and plastics industries have made real progress to show the possibilities behind advancing recycling, but there's more we can — and must — do to help move these numbers up.”
