PLASTICS Recycling Committee Stays Connected to Industry Developments

The PLASTICS Recycling Committee recently gathered in the Carolinas, bringing together representatives from member companies throughout the plastics supply chain for planning, updates and information-sharing. The event was hosted by WEIMA North American headquarters in Fort Mill, South Carolina, with part of the day spent across the border in Charlotte, North Carolina.


Day One offered touring of several facilities engaged in the crucial endeavor of recycling plastic scrap, with the final stop being at WEIMA.  Attendees were treated to plant tours, providing a firsthand look at WEIMA's impressive machinery and also had the opportunity to engage with experts from WEIMA, asking questions and gaining valuable insights into the diverse range of machinery offered by the company.

OCS Blue Launch2

Operation Clean Sweep (OCS), the resin-loss prevention program founded by PLASTICS and operated in partnership with the American Chemistry Council, recently launched a verification program for companies designated as OCS Blue—the highest level of commitment in the OCS program.

 

The OCS Blue Verification program is an external inspection program that adds rigor and transparency to OCS Blue participation by verifying that 29 required management practices have been successfully implemented in each facility to prevent plastic resin loss.

Good News from Coperion!

Coperion has won a 2023 Stuttgart Innovation Award with their ZS-B MEGAfeed side feeder. Using this innovative system, plastic recyclate with low bulk densities, long considered intake-limited and not worth recycling, can be reliably fed in large quantities into their ZSK twin screw extruder and be concurrently recycled and compounded. Frank Lechner, General Manager of Process Technology and R&D, and Stefan Huber, Development Engineer R&D, attended the ceremony to receive the award.
