PLASTICS' EHS+ Committee held a wide-ranging and informative virtual meeting on October 26 and 27. The committee heard from several members of the PLASTICS senior team with important updates and covered a wide range of topics including:
EJScreen: EJScreen is an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) tool that can help companies understand socioeconomic and environmental conditions around their facilities. Agencies and communities can use it for enforcement, permitting, issue identification, and comparing environmental burdens.
Initiatives/Research: The committee heard about industry initiatives to address challenges in accounting for Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions, and about industry research on microplastics including whether microplastic debris facilitates the long-range transport of plastic additives in the environment.
Safety Standards: Attendees learned how to get involved with PLASTICS’ standards activities and how, beyond protecting employees as priority one, standards can also save time while reducing waste, emissions, and energy consumption—impacting the bottom line well beyond compliance.
