PLASTICS Evaluating Draft National Strategy to Prevent Plastic Pollution
The EPA announced a “Draft National Strategy to Prevent Plastic Pollution” on April 21 with three objectives: reduce pollution during plastic production; improve post-use materials management, and prevent trash and micro/nanoplastics from entering waterways and remove escaped trash from the environment. The measure was announced in addition to the Administration’s Executive Order on Revitalizing Our Nation’s Commitment to Environmental Justice for All. While some of EPA’s proposed actions appear aligned with common goals, others raise questions and concerns. PLASTICS government affairs team is reviewing the draft, for which there will be a 45-day comment period once notice is published in the Federal Register. EPA is hosting a webinar relevant to the executive order on May 11 at 1:00 p.m. ET; registration is here.
